Grossglockner

The pyramid-shaped Großglockner at 3798m in height is not just the highest mountain in Austria, it is also one of the highest peaks in the Ostalpen. The Großglockner was first scaled in 1800; these days the Großglockner Alpine road which takes you to the Großglockner, is a popular excursion destination for young and old.

The Alpine road is very popular amongst motorbikers - they head for the Großglockner in their droves.

Particular highlights on the Großglockner are Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe, the visitor’s centre and the Gamsgrubenweg. From Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe you can enjoy a breathtaking view to the summit of the Großglockner and it’s also not out of the ordinary that you’ll come face-to-face with marmots or mighty ibexes. The Gamsgrubenweg also starts here. This unique panorama path heads via the impressive glacier landscape of the Pasterze to the Wasserfallwinkel. In the visitor centre lots of interesting facts about the Großglockner await you, over four levels.
