Cross-country skiing paradise

Kitzsteinhorn's High-Altitude Track

Enjoy an unforgettable mountain panorama at 2,900 m - mixed with sophisticated high-altitude training. The high-altitude trail can be used even in the early summer months, and is an attractive destination for hobby-cross country skiers, beginners and advanced cross-country skiers.

Track completely open from mid-October

The glacier trail on the Kitzsteinhorn is fully open 2 months before all other cross-country ski tracks and offers an ideal opportunity for high-altitude training and competition preparation. Thanks to guaranteed snow in the winter months, you can ski 3km rounds completely undisturbed. Enjoy the view as you glide over the dreamlike landscape of the Salzburg Alps.

The cable car to the high-altitude track

Breathe the pure glacier air early. The cableways, which bring you up to 3,029 m, go daily from 8:15. The current prices for cable cars and ski passes can be found on the official website of the Kitzsteinhorn.

Skiing at 2900m- What to expect?

Cross-country skiing in itself is healthy - this is a well known fact. But the cross-country skiing on the glacier at Kitzsteinhorn in Kaprun not only offers a beautiful view on top, but also gets you into shape.

First things first:
It does not really matter if you are already trained or not. First and foremost, you must be healthy, without any cardiovascular or lung problems. Listen to you body! You should also drink more, because at an altitude of 3,000 m, the air also contains less water, What happens when you train in "thin air"?If you travel from lower regions, or regions that are almost sea-level, like from Hamburg for example, to the ski holiday in the mountains and unpack your cross-country skis on 3.000m you will presumably be short of breath at first. This is due to the low oxygen concentration of the air. Your body needs time to get used to this new environment. We offer you enough space, great service and attractive cross-country packages. If you spend some time in the mountains, your body begins to adjust and produce more red blood cells for oxygen transport. Therefore after high-altitude, your body is more efficient for a while - the shortness of breath disappears. But the effect does not last forever in the village. After a few weeks, the "too many" red blood cells are broken down as they are not needed in the lower regions.
